Tyrer returns to Widnes

Widnes have signed former St Helens centre Steve Tyrer on a one-year deal.

Tyrer, 21, first joined the Vikings on loan in 2008 and then again in 2009, amassing more than 100 points.

He has spent the 2010 at Salford after a loan spell with Celtic Crusaders in 2009.

Vikings Head Coach Paul Cullen said: “I am delighted to continue our relationship with Steve. It was our intention to add quality to our 3/4 options plus another top class goal kicker. Steve was my main target last season, but we lost him to Super League and his addition is further evidence of our rebuilding programme.”

Tyrer joins Leigh back-rower Macgraff Leuluai and Hull KR half-back Chaz I’Anson in confirming moves to the Stobart Stadium.

The club have also confirmed new contracts for stand-off Anthony Thackeray, winger Dean Gaskell, back-rowers Kurt Haggerty and Tom Kelly, and prop Daniel Heckenberg.
