Sonny Bill Williams will play in Super League next season, after Toronto Wolfpack confirmed his signing.

Williams, 34, has been in the headlines all week ahead of his official announcement as the highest paid player ever in either code.

He said: “Toronto Wolfpack has established themselves as a multi-cultural and economic powerhouse, not only in the city but across the world.

“The club has big ambitions and big goals. I want to be part of all this and do all I can to help reach those lofty goals.

“On the field, I’d like to bring high-quality play and do all I can for the betterment of the team.

“Off the field, I’d like to use my experience to mentor the young players and be helpful where I am needed.

“Super League will be a new challenge and one I’m looking forward to. It will be a new experience and one I’m ready to embrace.”

Williams previously won the NRL with Sydney Roosters and Canterbury Bulldogs, and won the Rugby (union) World Cup twice with the All Blacks.

He will be officially unveiled next week at Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium, and will join up with his new team-mates following a period of rest and recovery after the World Cup.
