Toovey keen to make winning start

Geoff Toovey has urged his Bradford players to pick up the winning thread when they visit Rochdale on Sunday.

The new Bulls’ boss is eager to make a positive start in charge of the club and says the first task is to finally wipe out their points deficit.

“All of these games are massive for us, no one is bigger than each week,” he told the club’s official website.

“It’s vital for us to get on that winning streak and get that monkey off our backs.

“That minus two has been hanging around for a couple months now, and we seem to be in a bit of a hoodoo. Once we get over that hurdle we can set some news goals and we can go on from there.

“Rochdale are in a very similar situation to us. They’re a solid team without being exceptional, they have a good pack of forwards and solid backs, so they are going to give us a really good contest on the weekend for sure.

“The boys know how hard they have to work to achieve the right results, it is all about strong discipline to help lead to success. It’s very important because obviously every win gets us further away from relegation.

“It is tough, it’s a tough competition and it will remain to be to win the majority of our games but that’s our ambition. I think we have the ability to do it, we just have to become more consistent.

“We have shown through the year and beat some good sides or at least give them a good run for their money, and unfortunately we can’t back that up from half to half or week to week.

“Fatigue and concentration are the key theories of rugby league, but applying success to those theories under pressure is a different situation.

“Hopefully we can win a few more games before we can try and bring some people in and give ourselves a chance. We need to concentrate on the weeks ahead, particularly with Rochdale and do our best there.

“It’s important that we play consistent football as we seemed to capitulate at half time against Featherstone, we need to get that consistency.

“We know that we have the ability, it’s just about having that patience and the tenacity in what you do. We need to begin this against Rochdale.”
