Tomkins raring to go

Sam Tomkins is raring to get back into training with Wigan and insists there is no danger of burnout, despite only playing his last game of a gruelling season less than a week ago.

Tomkins, 22, turned out for union side The Barbarians last week and registered the invitational side’s only try of the game in the 11-60 mauling.

He will return to Wigan Warriors duty next week when they fly out to Florida for pre-season training next Monday.

He said: “I didn’t want to be left behind. If I felt like I needed more time off I probably could have got it, but it’s a good chance for me to go over there and be with the boys and work on a few skills as well.”

“I’ll not be doing the full training while we’re there. I’ve only just finished playing so the plan is to gradually get back into it, and I imagine it’s the same for Tommy (Thomas Leuluai).”

It is rumoured  Kiwi centre Anthony Gelling – whose signing has not yet been announced by the Warriors – will arrive in time to join his new team mates in Florida.
