Tomkins named player of the round

Wigan full-back Sam Tomkins has been named Frontline Player of the Round following his performance during Wigan’s  60-12 win over Bradford Bulls.

Tomkins racked up 1178 points in the Frontline rankings, carried the ball 23 times making an impressive total of 248 meters and crossing to score two tries. Tomkins also burst 9 tackles, making four clean breaks and claiming two try assists as well.

Tomkins has been joined in the Frontline team of the week by teammate George Carmont who occupies a position in the centre alongside Warrington’s Ryan Atkins. Salford’s Danny Williams has earned his place on one wing while teammate Daniel Holdsworth is in the half-back position. Castleford’s Willie Isa occupies the other wing and is one of a Tiger’s trio, with Rangi Chase and Ben Davies also included in the team.

St Helens duo James Roby and Iosia Soliola join Davies in the front row with Wakefield’s Paul Johnson, Huddersfield’s David Fa’alogo and Warrington’s Chris Bridge making up the remainder of the forwards.

Points are calculated from every action made by players with every involvement given a points value depending on the importance and frequency of the action. For example a try would be the highest scoring value, with actions such as tackles and carries scoring smaller values. Mistakes such as handling errors or penalties conceded would incur negative values.

At the end of a match, all the players’ actions are added together to give a game score. The 13 individuals with the highest scores in each position on the field of play earns inclusion in the Frontline Index Team of the Week with the highest scoring individual earning the Frontline Index Player of the Week title.
