London Skolars talisman Neil Thorman has been selected as the Northern Rail Cup ‘Player of the Round’ following his stand-out performance against York City Knights during the sides 16-16 draw on Sunday February 20.

Skolars came within inches of recording their first victory of the 2011 campaign against their Championship counterparts and Thorman put in an inspired captain’s performance to earn the London based side their first points of the season.

“Neil is one of those rare players who can play in almost every position and be as good as anyone,” said Skolars Director Mark Croston. “He’s played all over the park for us and he always does a great job and his skills and his leadership ability mark him out as one of the best players in the league.

“There is no one more focused than him when it comes to game day and what needs to be achieved and he showed that against York.

“He led from the from the front and his ability to move the ball quickly to keep York on the back-foot, combined with his ability to stick to the game plan, was vital for us on the day.

“We were disappointed not to get a win in the game. We were strong in the second half and I think the whole team’s performance and commitment was fantastic. We let ourselves down against Doncaster the week before but we showed what we can do and that we have the quality to compete with the best in the competition.”

Thorman will be presented with his award during London Skolars’ next home fixture against Egremont on Saturday, March 5.
