Corey Thompson was pleased to start his Super League career off with a win but knows his Widnes side are in for a much harder task this weekend against Leeds.

Thompson made his Super League debut on Sunday in Widnes’ 24-16 victory against Wakefield.

This weekend the Vikings take on the Rhinos at home. Leeds fell to Warrington in their opener and the defending champions will be looking to put things right.

“It was a good tough win against Wakefield,” Thompson told Love Rugby League.

“I think it was a good thing for the team that we didn’t play to our best but still did enough to get the win, which is always good for round one.

“Leeds are definitely going to be tough, especially after the tough loss they had. They will be out to prove a point against us. We just have to match it with our best.”

Thompson made 87 metres and one tackle bust from his 12 carries at Belle Vue.

It was the winger’s first appearnce in the top flight after arriving from the NRL and he was impressed with the atmosphere and fan interaction.

“It was great, the crowds are good how they get into it and sing songs,” he said.
