The rugby league diet is our new feature where we give you an insight in to the eating habits of your favourite professional players, in partnership with Heaven ‘N’ Health.

Germany and North Wales Crusaders half-back Brad Billsborough is our latest guest…

What is your diet like, Brad?

“It depends if it is a training day or a non-training day. If we’re training, I like to get a lot of protein in me and if I’m not training, I have a little bit of a rest and then I’ll get more carbs in me.

“The main thing about having a lot of protein is that it helps me to recover, whether that is by having food or a protein shake.”

What’s your game day meal?

“For some reason I’ve always had beans on toast for breakfast in the morning of the game. I’ve done that since playing amateur, so I guess it has just stuck with me.

“I like to have a few Jaffa Cakes before a game as well so I’ve got plenty of energy in me. Not a lot of players tend to eat before a game but I’m all good with it.”

How often does a rugby player drink?

“I can only speak for myself but I’m not much of a drinker myself to be honest. I’ll have a drink on an occasion but I don’t just go out and have a drink.

“I’ve never really done it. If I’m a party then I’ll have a drink but other than that I’m not much of a drinker.”

What is your favourite cheat meal?

“I do like some BBQ ribs with some chips. I love a Chinese takeaway as well.”
