NRL journeyman Arana Taumata has departed from his sixth club after being released from his contract by North Queensland.

Taumata, 21, was contracted to the Cowboys until the end of the 2011 NRL season but has requested that his contracted be terminated.

Taumata, who was sacked by Melbourne for an off the field altercation in 2009, has also had spells with Sydney, Brisbane and Canterbury during his short career.

A short spell with Wests Tigers saw him gain no first grade experience before his move north to Townsville in June this year.

Taumata made one appearance for the Cowboys in round 16 before playing several games for the Mackay Cutters in the InTrust Super Cup.
