York City Knights have signed prop forward Samir Tahraoui from Rochdale Hornets on loan for the rest of the season.

The 26-year-old graduated from Warrington’s junior system and went on to help Swinton secure promotion to the Championship before enjoying a stint with Australian Queensland Cup outfit Tweed Head Seagulls.

He returned to the UK with Bradford, although he played the majority of that season on loan with Keighley before moving to Rochdale where he was influential in their promotion to the Championship.

York boss James Ford said: “Samir will add some size, aggression and impact to our squad and he’s another good option for us in the middle. He is exactly what we were looking for at this stage of the season.

“He was highly sought after and we are very pleased to secure his release from Rochdale and get him on board.

“Samir is a real handful to play against and has always caused us problems, so with the right attitude I’m sure he will be great addition to our squad.”
