Swinton have released their squad numbers, and Gavin Bennion has been handed the No. 8 jersey.

The Lions have 25 players signed up for 2019, with 11 of those being re-signed from last season.

Lions’ coach Stuart Littler has brought in the likes of Bennion and Adam Jones to add size to his forward pack, while recruiting half-backs Rob Fairclough and Oscar Thomas.

On the new shirt numbers, Swinton’s chairman Andy Mazey said: “A lot is often read into the squad numbers. However, Stuart has gone on record stating that all places are up for grabs which is refreshing to hear.

“The 17 who kick off the season in Sheffield will be based on performance throughout the challenging pre-season and of course the three warm-up fixtures.

“With a new cup competition on the line and the prospect of midweek fixtures coupled with the demands of overseas fixtures, the importance of a strong squad can’t be overstated.

“Our much-improved team spirit, strong work ethic, and the togetherness of this group of quality people will be vial to us throughout a challenging year.”
