Super League clubs respond following Arsenal’s mascot controversy

Several Super League clubs have taken to social media after Arsenal posted a video online of their players greeting a mascot on a match day. 

The Premier League leaders shared on Twitter a video titled, ‘Making memories with our mascot.’

However, it probably hasn’t received the attention that the media team was hoping for, with little words spoken between the Premier League stars and the young fan, many of those with headphones in.

Instead, players were filmed passing on a pen to sign the girl’s shirt as she looked on in awe.

Super League stars show the way

Salford full-back Ryan Brierley was one of many in the reply section to share their views on the somewhat awkward 1 minute 49 second video.

NRL star and Great Britain international Jackson Hastings also shared his views online.

The Newcastle Knights half-back posted: “Really? I thought making memories would be for at least one of them having the decency to say ‘hello’ or acknowledge the young girl.”

Warrington became the latest Super League outfit to share a video on social media, tagging Arsenal in their tweet as many of their players greeted supporter Jack from the club’s Learning Disability team to training at the Halliwell Jones Stadium on Wednesday.

Ex-NRL stars Josh McGuire and Paul Vaughan were among those to take time out and speak to the fan.

 

2022 Grand Finalists Leeds Rhinos were first to post their mascot footage from their recent home fixture with Hull, going on to claim a 34-10 victory at Headingley Stadium.

Referee Jack Smith gave the young mascot the responsibility of the coin toss ahead of kick-off.

He was thanked for his efforts by Leeds’ Cameron Smith, before taking a picture and having a conversation with the young fan.

Players such as James Donaldson and Nene Macdonald then greeted the youngster on their way out of the tunnel to conduct their warm-up ahead of the Round Nine clash.

Brad Fash the man

Hull forward Brad Fash also interacted with fan and mascot Teddy, taking a picture with the youngster after signing his shirt.

“Rugby league leading the way,” one fan wrote in the replies.
