Stringer agrees new Eagles contract

Sheffield captain Mitch Stringer has committed his future to the Eagles by signing a three-year contract extension.

Stringer, 29, took over the club captaincy after Jack Howieson left the club earlier this year and his extension to 2016 will be a massive positive for the squad ahead of their Challenge Cup quarter-final with London Broncos on Friday.

Prop forward Stringer joined the club back in 2003, and although he had short spells in Super League at Salford and then Friday’s visitors the Broncos, he returned back to Sheffield in 2006 helping the club gain promotion from National League Two (now Championship One).

His coach, Mark Aston, said, “It’s great news that Mitch has agreed his future to the Eagles.

“He’s been fantastic this year and I think he’s in the best shape of his life. When Jack left, Mitch stepped up to the captain’s role and has helped fill some pretty big shoes.”

“I can’t under estimate what an all-round professional Mitch is, both on and off the field and the club, including the community work he does around the region for us.”

“Not many people know but Mitch has played most positions from prop and second row to hooker and stand-off, he’s a smart player and a great character to have at the club.”
