St Helens academy star hospitalised after suffering serious head injuries on night out

St Helens academy player Joe Sharratt has been hospitalised after suffering serious head injuries following an incident outside Factory nightclub in Manchester on Sunday morning.

Greater Manchester Police are currently investigating the incident, which happened in Manchester city centre at around 3:20am on Sunday morning.

Sharratt, 18, represented Lancashire Schoolboys against the Australian Schoolboys on Saturday and was hoping to represent England next weekend.

St Helens have released a statement on the matter, it read: “We understand GM Police are investigating the matter and therefore we cannot make any further comment at this time.

“He is a top academic achiever with a very bright future ahead of him alongside his rugby league prowess.

“Our welfare team are now in contact with Joe’s family and we will offer any assistance we can at this distressing time.

“Understandably, our thoughts are now with Joe and his family.”
