St George Illawarra Dragons have confirmed the club have pulled out of their pursuit to sign Israel Folau from Catalans Dragons.

St George Illawarra say they enquired about bringing Folau back to the NRL but have now confirmed that discussions have come to a close.

The 31-year-old centre returned to rugby league with the Catalans last season, scoring five tries in 15 appearances.

A statement from St George Illawarra read: “St George Illawarra have provided the following update in relation to Israel Folau.

“While the Dragons did enquire about signing Folau, the club can confirm that such discussions have now ceased.

“The Dragons will make no further comment.”

Folau is a dual-code international for Australia and made 91 NRL appearances for Melbourne Storm and Brisbane between 2007-10 before moving to Australian rules football and then rugby union.
