Souths to delay Ross return

South Sydney have elected to delay the return of prop Ben Ross after he met with specialists.

Ross’ recovery from a serious neck injury suffered playing for Cronulla last season is almost complete but experts have advised him to wait for another month before he resumes playing duties.

“Our number one priority has always been Ben’s health and we will be following the guidelines set by his surgeon,” said Rabbitohs Chief Executive Shane Richardson.

“We won’t be rushing him back and we’re looking forward to Ben receiving the all clear for a return to the field.”

Ross, who won a premiership with Penrith in 2003, had doubt cast over his future when he suffered the injury in March last year, ironically against his old club.

He ruptured a disc in his neck which was pushing against his spinal column but has since had surgery to correct the problem.

He took a reported £350,000 pay cut to sign for Souths in August last year but has indicated of his desire to return to top level.

Meanwhile, big name signings Sam Burgess and Dave Taylor are set to line up in the front row for Sunday’s derby clash with the Sydney Roosters.
