Sonny Bill Williams has been linked with a return to rugby league with the Sydney Roosters in 2017.

The New Zealand star, who made his name with the Canterbury Bulldogs before defecting to rugby union in 2008, is currently contracted to the New Zealand Rugby Union until the end of 2016.

Williams is keen to represent the Kiwis in the rugby sevens at the Rio Olympics next year. But according to Rugby League Week, the 30-year old is set to return to the NRL and his former club the Roosters in 2017.

Williams spent the 2013 and 2014 seasons with the Roosters, helping them win the 2013 grand final over Manly.

Earlier this year he was part of the All Blacks side that won the 2015 Rugby Union World Cup, defending the trophy he and the Kiwis also won in 2011.

Williams has recently been spotted in meetings with Roosters owner Nick Politis and head coach Trent Robinson.
