Smith slaps down Eastmond to Warrington rumours

Warrington coach Tony Smith has dismissed the rumours which have linked Kyle Eastmond with a move to the Wolves.

Eastmond currently remains exiled in rugby union, but his failure to be selected for the England union world cup squad triggered rumours that he was to return to the 13-man code with Wire.

Sky Sports commentator Mike Stephenson made the rumour public ahead of the televised game between Leeds and Warrington last week.

“I’ve heard some media have put it on social media without doing any questioning or homework,” Smith said.

“We get aligned with everybody that comes off contract, both in this part of the world or in Australia.

“So it’s just another one of those rumours, but it catches on because more than two people read it.”

Meanwhile, Warrington travel to Castleford on Thursday evening hoping for a massive improvement from their heavy defeat at Leeds last week.

Smith hopes that his team can take inspiration from a fine win at Cas in recent weeks.

“It was a superb performance. That’s what we’re focusing on,” he said.

“Hopefully we can get that again. It’s needed, it’s a tough place to go to.

“It’s not always easy to go there and get the points.

“Having done that a few weeks ago, it’ll spur them along a little bit, but it also gives us confidence that you can go there and perform well.

“We go into each game wanting and desiring and preparing to win each and every game. Nothing changes in that respect.”
