Smith and Westwood claim awards

Warrington coach Tony Smith and second row Ben Westwood have picked up the Super League coach and player of the month awards.

Smith led the Wolves to four wins from four in March – including a 14-try romp against Harlequins and impressive victories over the past two Super League champions, Leeds and Wigan.

Tireless hard-tackling back rower Westwood was up against team-mate Matty Blythe and St Helens half-back Jonny Lomax for the official Engage Super League Player of the Month title but took the prize after gaining most support from the Engage Super League coaches.

Team-mates Ben Harrison and Michael Monaghan join Westwood and Blythe in the Team of the Month, which is selected by League Weekly’s panel of experts.

Castleford Tigers are also well represented with stand-off Rangi Chase, prop Craig Huby and winger Kirk Dixon in the XIII.

St Helens also have three players in the team with Lomax joined by Francis Meli and prop James Graham.

Salford’s Jodie Broughton, who scored four tries in a win at Catalan Dragons, takes his place on the wing, Huddersfield full-back Scott Gris takes the Number 1 shirt whilst Wakefield skipper Glenn Morrison is named in the second row.
