Sheridan brothers go head to head

Rugby league is renowned for being a family game but come Saturday the Sheridan family will be divided between Rochdale Hornets and Rochdale Mayfield.

Hornets scrum half Lewis Sheridan will line up against younger brother Declan as the two go head to head for the Foundation Shield at Mayfield Sports Centre.

“I’m looking forward to it; it will be good that the whole family will be there,” he explained

“We’ve always been at (Rochdale) Mayfield, I think I played a couple of games with him there but never against him.”

Since then Lewis has taken the step up to the Kingstone Press League 1 with the Hornets and although he is relishing the chance to face his brother in his side’s first pre-season game of the year, the 21 year-old will be focused on the game.

“Around the house he’s been barging into me and I’ve been telling him to watch his back on game day.

“Obviously I’ll be concentrating on the game but any opportunity I get to tackle him I will take.”

2015 is set to be a big year for the sport as the RL New Era begins and Rochdale will be looking to bounce back to the Championship at the first attempt.

The team have put in the hard work in the off-season and are now looking forward to finally getting on the pitch and playing.

“Pre-season has been a lot better than last year, we’ve got a better squad and everything is looking positive.

“The belief is there with everyone, we are positive that we can get promoted.

“I can’t wait for the season to start now, obviously training has been hard and it will be good to get rid of all the sprints and fitness and concentrate on playing each week.”

Make sure you are at Mayfield Sports Centre on Saturday to watch the team get their pre-season schedule underway at 2pm.
