Sheffield Eagles have agreed a five-year agreement to play their home games at the new Community Stadium at Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park.

The club is hoping to play its first home game at the re-developed venue on Friday April 10.

It is sited where the former Don Valley Stadium was located, which was home to the Eagles until 2013.

They played at the Legacy Park in 2018 before moving to Doncaster’s Keepmoat Stadium while development was undertaken.

Eagles General Manager, Liam Claffey, said: “We’re extremely delighted to have entered into a five-year commercial agreement with Scarborough Group International to confirm the Community Stadium as the new home of Sheffield Eagles. We are looking forward to re-establishing our base in the city of Sheffield once again.

“Now that the deal is signed our focus is on working with Scarborough Group International to ensure we’re able to deliver the best game day experience for our supporters, corporate partners and community stakeholders, and we look forward to welcoming them all to the Community Stadium in the coming months.”

The stadium will have a three-storey, covered grandstand with seating for 758 spectators and a capacity of up to 3,900.

Alongside that there will be 23,000 sq ft of commercial space and ancillary facilities.

It will feature a 3G synthetic pitch and works are due to be completed on the stadium in March 2022.

The stadium is owned by Scarborough Group International.

Stephen Marriott from SGI, added: “Sheffield Eagles have a strong and growing fan base in the city. This, combined with the investment we’ve made into our Community Stadium, will give fans more opportunities to experience the action at a first-class venue.

“We look forward to working with Sheffield Eagles on this partnership.”

Sheffield are due to play their first eight Championship fixtures of the season away from home.

London Broncos are due to be the first visitors to Sheffield, on April 10.
