North Queensland enforcer Matt Scott will miss the Cowboys’ outing against Canberra on Monday with a foot injury.

Prop Scott tore ligaments in his foot in the late stages of the victory over Cronulla last weekend and is expected to be sidelined for around two weeks.

Cowboys coach Neil Henry has selected Ashton Sims as Scott’s replacement while Queensland Cup product Ricky Thorby is named on the bench for the match at Canberra Stadium.

“He’s a big part of our team as co-captain with his leadership on the field,” Henry said of Scott.

“He’s been tremendous with his go-forward, the metres he’s getting each week and the momentum he gets for us through the middle.

“He’ll certainly be missed but Ashton Sims has been good off the bench and gets his opportunity to start and Ricky Thorby has been very good in Queensland Cup.

“He’s looking forward to having a run.”

Meanwhile second rower Tariq Sims is neaing fitness after suffering a horrific leg break in August last year.

“He’s thereabouts,” said Henry.

“He hasn’t done all of the contact work that we’d like at the moment.

“We’ll just have to wait and see with him with the view (that he can play) sometime in the next two weeks.”
