Scorpions forward Phillips retires from rugby league

South Wales Scorpions have revealed that forward Barrie Phillips is leaving the club, after retiring from professional rugby league.

The 29-year-old has cited family concerns as his main reason for the decision.

“Barrie expressed his concerns to me at the start of pre-season,” said Scorpions coach Phil Carleton.

“With the long away trips we have, Barrie has found it difficult to juggle his rugby with his family life and rightfully family has to come first.

“I’d like to thank Barrie for his commitment throughout the years for both the Scorpions and Cardiff City RL, playing a big role for both clubs last season, and I hope he’ll continue to turn out for Cardiff in 2016.”
