Scorpions begin re-signing squad

South Wales Scorpions have begun the process of re-signing their players for the 2011 Co-operative Championship 1 season.

Coach Anthony Seibold has said that he hopes to keep the majority of the squad that performed so well in this year’s campaign as the Scorpions finished sixth in the league and secured a play-off spot.

“We’re keeping the bulk of the squad from last season,” he said. “And we will be looking for new Welsh-born players through our open trial on December 5th.

“The quality of player that we’ve been able to keep, ensures that we’ll be competitive in 2011.

“In addition to the open trials, we will also be looking to bring in three new signings in areas that we need to strengthen, but the priority lies upon retaining the players who have done so well for us this season.”

“So far skipper Aled James, Ashley Bateman, Joe Burke, Andrew Gay and Casey Bromilow have all put pen to paper, while Dalton Grant has accepted an offer to continue to train with the squad to continue his development. He didn’t make an appearance last season, but we feel he has plenty of potential going forward.”

The Scorpions are continuing to meet with the rest of the squad, in no particular order, over the next few weeks, to discuss terms for next season.
