Salford swoop to sign Broughton

Salford City Reds have signed former Leeds Rhinos three-quarter Jodie Broughton.

Broughton, who has been handed the number two jersey, spent a spell on loan with Hull FC last season, scoring five tries in seven Super League appearances.

Salford director of football Steve Simms, speaking to the Manchester Evening News, said: “We’ve been interested in Jodie for a while – he’s a player who has always impressed me.

“He has good pace and is an exciting winger. I spoke with his agent Frank Endacott last week who informed us a move for Jodie into rugby union would not be happening.

“We then lost no time making him an offer and are very pleased to have completed the deal.”

The 21-year-old has agreed a two-year deal and could make his Salford debut on December 27 when the Reds travel to Leigh for a pre-season friendly.
