Salford recruit Paterson has not given up on boxing

Salford newcomer Cory Paterson has insisted that he still has plans to continue his career in boxing, even though he has returned to rugby league.

Paterson, 27, left Wests Tigers at the end of the season to concentrate on the fight game, but was tempted back into rugby by the Red Devils.

“I still am serious about it but it’s just been put on hold,” he told BBC Radio Manchester.

“I’ve had two fights and two wins now so I’m successful at it, but it’s just one of those things that I still want to play football while I still can.

“If the opportunity comes up to fight, maybe in an off season or something, then I’ll definitely look at it.”

Meanwhile, Paterson is also looking forward to linking up with former Hull KR team-mate Michael Dobson, who is returning to Super League with Salford after a spell in the NRL with Newcastle Knights.

“Dobbo and I are good mates and we compliment each other well I think,” Paterson explained.

“He’s a fantastic player, a really good bloke and I’m really looking forward to playing with him again because he definitely helped me, and I like to think I helped him out a little bit too.”
