Wigan went four points clear at the top of Super League with a hard-fought win over Salford.

The league’s leading points scorer Pat Richards scored 14 of their 18 points as they took advantage of Warrington’s slip-up at Hull KR to strengthen their position at the top of the table.

Paul Deacon‘s converted try gave Wigan the lead but Ashley Gibson kept Salford in touch on the stroke of half time.

Richards’ second half hat-trick, coupled with a solid defensive effort, helped Wigan to their sixth successive win in front of a season high crowd of 6,618 at The Willows.
