Roden in Naylor’s thoughts for Oldham assistant job

Scott Naylor’s first job as Oldham Rugby League Club’s new coach will be to appoint his number two.

Martin Roden, caretaker boss for the last four games of the season, is among the front-runners, but Naylor is keeping his options open until he has had talks with the former Wigan and Leigh hooker.

Naylor, 40, who won every domestic honour in the game as a centre with Bradford Bulls, said: “Martin did a good job as caretaker so he’s got to be in the running, although I need to talk to him because I don’t know him all that well.

“He’s not the only one I have in mind, but he deserves to be given first chance.”

Oldham have only one player so far under contract for 2013 – Roden’s cousin Neil, the club captain.
