Wakefield head coach Richard Agar has been appointed as new France coach on a part-time basis.

Agar will lead “Les Chanticleers” in the World Cup at the end of the year, and succeeds Aurelien Cologni, the Lezignan coach who had taken temporary charge following the departure of Bobbie Goulding.

He said: “To be able to take part in a World Cup as a coach is something everybody has an aspiration to do.”

France take on Papua New Guinea, New Zealand and Samoa in Group B of the World Cup, which starts on Saturday 26th October.

They were beaten twice in the Autumn International Series by England in 2012, but had won their previous four tests.
