RFL retain lease on Odsal for 2020

Rugby Football League chairman Simon Johnson has confirmed the governing body will keep the lease on Bradford’s Odsal ground in 2020.

The stadium will empty next season though, with the Bulls expected to play at Dewsbury’s Tetley’s Stadium in 2020.

Johnson has admitted the RFL board are exploring the options for the future of Odsal. It could be kept incase Bradford decide to return in 2021 – but there is also a possibility that it could be sold completely.

He said: “Odsal is currently mothballed, following the decision by Bradford Bulls to leave.

“The board is working with the club to ensure that a return to the stadium in 2021 remains an option, whilst continuing positive discussions with Bradford City Council on a development plan for the site and exploring options around the sale of the governing body’s interest in the stadium.

“The board has acted in the best interests of the game when making decisions relating to the approval of purchasers following insolvency events, and decisions have been taken in accordance with the prevailing rules and regulations.”
