The RFL has heralded a new chapter in Rugby League broadcasting following the successful launch of Premier Sports’ live coverage of Co-operative Championships action this week.
The broadcaster screened the Leigh Centurions v Batley Bulldogs fixture on Thursday evening when Rugby League fans were treated to an innovative approach which RFL Chief Operating Officer Ralph Rimmer believes has enhanced the sport.
The coverage includes a system which allows viewers to see and hear the full deliberations by the video referee and Rimmer is confident Rugby League supporters will be fans of the new approach.
“I would like to offer a warm welcome to Premier Sports, I thought the coverage on Thursday evening was terrific,” said Rimmer. “It was informative and innovative and I’d urge any Rugby League fan not to miss out.
“Video referee Ian Smith did a fantastic job of explaining the process of his decisions live on air and it gave the viewers a great insight into what to expect from Premier Sports this season.”
Richard Webb, the Operations Director for Premier Sports, said: “We have had excellent feedback to our first Co-operative Championship broadcast. The live stream of the video referee decision has really made a big impact and we look forward to keeping viewers close to the action throughout the season.”
