Red Star Belgrade have submitted a formal bid to enter the Challenge Cup from next year onwards.

The Serbian club made the announcement following Catalans Dragons’ successful Challenge Cup triumph on the weekend.

Red Star released a short statement confirming their proposal to the Rugby Football League.

It read: “After Catalans made Challenge Cup history this weekend, we can announce that we have submitted a formal bid to enter the Challenge Cup for the 2019 season.

“This is in an effort to prove our worth to the rugby league world, we will also be inviting challenges from the Championship, League 1 and NCL clubs. Our place or yours, we welcome any challenge.

“We look forward to being the first Serbian team to ever participate in the biggest rugby league knockout tournament in the world.”
