Preview: Halifax v Barrow

Halifax coach Matt Calland hopes to back up his side’s first win of the season with another triumph over Barrow Raiders.

Stuttering Halifax finally got their Co-operative Championship campaign up and running with a 56-24 win over Dewsbury on Easter Monday.

It was their first win in six games, but they’ve now got Barrow firmly in their sights.

Calland said: “Hopefully it will give us some confidence.”

However, the Fax boss faces an anxious wait on the fitness of Ben Black (hamstring), Jon Goddard (ribs), Makali Aizue and Paul Smith, who all suffered knocks against the Rams.

Barrow were 30-12 winners against misfiring Widnes on Monday, leaving Nigel Wright in a good mood ahead of Sunday’s clash with last year’s champions.

Wright said: “It was a good performance and a good result.”

He added: “We’ve got some games coming up which I think we can go and perform in, and bring home the points.

“It’s going to take a lot of effort, but the boys are committing to that.”
