Powell mystified by Castleford display

Castleford Tigers coach Daryl Powell has blasted his team’s performance in defeat at Widnes at the weekend.

Powell was left frustrated by almost every aspect of the Tigers’ display, though he also acknowledged that Widnes played very well.

“We didn’t play well. I could put it down to every aspect of the performance, I thought we got beat in everything,” he told his club’s official website.

“I’ve questioned the players in terms of there approach and how hard they have worked to get in the right frame of mind to play this game today, because clearly on the other side of the changing rooms there’s a group of players that wanted to win the game a little bit more.

“That is obviously disappointing because that is not what you normally get from a Castleford Tigers team.

“We’ve been pretty good against Widnes in the past couple of years but today they’ve got one over on us.

“I thought Kevin Brown was superb and across the board we lacked composure and intensity in our game so I’m pretty disappointed.”
