Caretaker Hull KR coach Willie Poching says he wants to take charge of the team on a permanent basis.

Assistant Poching has been given the top job following the sacking of Chris Chester today.

Poching has been put in charge on an interim basis but he told reporters today he wants the role full-time.

“Definitely. I’ve waited 10 years for this opportunity,” he said.

The Kiwi had a long playing career in his native New Zealand, Australia and in the UK. He retired with the Leeds Rhinos in 2006.

Since then Poching has coached Leeds’ academy, served as an assistant to Tony Smith at Warrington and to Chester at Hull KR.

He has also had a brief stint as coach of Samoa.
