Penkywicz set for Leigh move

Halifax have confirmed that captain Sean Penkywicz will leave to join Leigh at the end of the season.

Penkywicz, 30, has spent much of his career at The Shay, but will now move on to join his hometown club on a two-year deal.

A Halifax club statement said: “Of course, we respect his decision as he has been a loyal Fax player for many years. He has been the ‘go-to’ player for most of those years, has shared in our several successes and will be missed as a player and as part of the Club.

“However he goes with the Club’s blessing and we hope that the next two years are as successful for him, apart from when he plays against Halifax!”

Penkywicz spent four seasons with Halifax before moving on to play for Huddersfield, where he was an ever present until he was handed a drugs ban after testing positive for the banned steroid, stanozolol.

He returned to action after his ban with Halifax in 2007, and was part of their 2010 Championship winning side.

The hooker or half-back has also earned four international caps with Wales.
