Peacock blasts hair critics

Leeds forward Jamie Peacock was angry by suggestions that the team’s decision to raise awareness for Sport Relief was to blame for their heavy defeat by St Helens on Sunday night.

The Rhinos were left helpless by a resurgent St Helens, who ran in eight tries in a 46-6 thumping of the reigning Super League champions.

The SKY TV commentary criticised the Leeds players, who all dyed their hair red to raise money for the charity, labelling it “unprofessional”.

Peacock said:”Our hair colour had nothing to do with this game and anyone who says that obviously doesn’t know how this team works. We are trying to raise awareness and funds for a great cause.

“At the end of the day this was a disappointing loss but we will come back ready to go again next Friday. There are people who have horrendous lives around the world and by having a small bit of embarrassment personally we can raise funds that might save someones life.

“If I was asked to do it again for that reason I would do it, 100%.”

The whole round of Super League was dedicated to Sport Relief which included all teams wearing Sport Relief socks, a special Sport Relief ball at each match and the match officials wearing one off kits.
