Owen follows trio in committing to Oldham

Captain Gareth Owen is the fourth member of the Oldham squad to commit his future to the club.

Owen, 25, missed 12 games through injury as the Roughyeds were relegated to the Championship, but joins Adam Neal, Phil Joy and Danny Langtree in signing for 2018.

He said: “I’m really buzzing about it. As long as it was down to me, I was never going anywhere else.

“I feel I owe the club something. We’ll be out to get back up to the Championship at the first attempt — that’s the plan and we’ll be going for it.”

Owen snapped a ligament in his foot against Dewsbury back in June and is still on crutches after having his left foot pinned. He doesn’t expect to be running until January at the earliest.
