Monners’ Wire return

Is Joel Monaghan set to stay at Warrington next year in a massive u-turn? There has been talk that negotiations between the Aussie flyer and Salford have stalled, and he could even go back to the Wolves on reduced terms. Monaghan is keen to stay in Super League and Warrington’s decision to release him was supposedly based on cap pressure. The winger may well be back at the Halliwell Jones Stadium in 2016, which would be some sight indeed.

Cas chasing Rangi

OTR has heard that Castleford is interesting in bringing Rangi Chase back to the club. The mercurial Kiwi half joined the Tigers in 2009 and spent five seasons at the Jungle, where he ran in 47 tries. His two years at Salford have hardly been a highlight and he’s been widely linked with a move to Leigh. But a step down in division to the Championship might not be to Chase’s liking, along with the problem the Centurions will surely have in fitting him under the salary cap. Heading back to Cas might seem a strange decision for the 29-year old, but we’ve seen stranger.

Wallace away?

Could Penrith halfback Peter Wallace be on his way to Super League next year? The Panthers surprisely sacked coach Ivan Cleary recently and former Brisbane boss Anthony Griffin has been mooted as his replacement. This won’t be good news for Wallace, who did not get along with Griffin during his time with the Broncos. The scrum-half has been plagued by knee issues over the past two years but is a quality playmaker on his day. The Scottish international could be a hit in Super League, but is any club keen to make an approach? Speaking of the Brisbane Broncos, the grand finallists have jusr released front-rower James Gavet who now could be on his way to England.

Mandy’s move

Rumblings in Lancashire that Mandy Koukash, wife of Salford owner Marwan, has bought a share in Leigh. Koukash and Centurions owner Derek Beaumont have had their fair share of run-ins this year, over Ryan Brierley and Gareth Hock to name just two, but the good Doctor recently praised the outspoken Beaumont on Twitter. Mrs Koukash put in an offer for Bradford last year but was knocked back. Now she may finally have her own club ownership slice.

Salford Sam?

More chatter in Greater Manchester that Leigh prop Sam Barlow is set to sign for the Red Devils. Barlow has been with the Centurions since 2014, after spending time with Sheffield, Halifax and Featherstone. Salford’s pack is light after a host of departures and the 27-year old will bring size and experience. With Reni Maitua, Harrison Hansen and Cory Patterson all heading to Leigh from the Red Devils, Barlow could be one that bucks that trend.
