NRL trio unlikely to return for Exiles match

England‘s NRL-based trio Sam Burgess, Gareth Ellis and Gareth Widdop are unlikely to feature in the Exiles international origin match on June 10.

Burgess’ club South Sydney have previously raised their concerns over releasing the former Bradford forward for the mid-season game, citing his dip in form after returning from last season’s summer international against France.

And it appears that England will not be risking the wrath of Souths, as well as Ellis and Widdop’s club’s Wests Tigers and Melbourne Storm respectively by insisting that the three return to the UK for the game at Headingley.

England coach Steve McNamara told Australian magazine Rugby League Week: “We are content to let them remain with their NRL clubs.”

The International Origin Match is an exciting new concept with England taking on the Exiles, a team drawn from the best Australian and New Zealand players currently playing in Engage Super League, on Friday June 10 2011 at Headingley Carnegie Stadium (kick off 8pm).

Exiles coach Brian McClennan will make his third selection pick for the Exiles squad on Wednesday.
