No London trip for Wigan this year

Wigan chairman Ian Lenagan has revealed that the Warriors will not be playing a ‘home’ match in London this season.

Last season, Wigan faced Catalans Dragons at Millwall FC during the Super Eights.

Lenagan confirmed the decision in his programme notes for the club’s clash with Wakefield at the weekend, and hinted that the trip to London would return in 2017.

“Last year Wigan took a Super Eights fixture to London but that is not being repeated this year,” he wrote.

“This is because many Wigan fans were inconvenienced with the problems of the Salford fixture and the Easter Monday kick-off change.

“Supporters’ opinions are important and the problem of taking a Super Eights fixture to London is made even worse by the shortness of notice.

“The London project still remains important to Wigan in commercial opportunity and brand profile.

“Next year we will consider a London fixture in the regular season but will continue to take fans’ input on this issue.”
