Championship One side South Wales have got new leaders on and off the field.

The Scorpions recently appointed Mike Grady as head coach, and his first decision in the job was to make Phil Carleton captain.

“Phil was my first and only choice for club captain,” said Grady.

“And I’m pleased that everyone else involved in the backroom had exactly the same idea.

“He is a strong forward, a natural leader, and has been one of the people who have kept the club together in the winter months.”

Former Valley Cougars man Carleton is excited by the new direction the club is taking under Grady.

Carleton said: “We’re not just about building a side this year, it’s about building a club, communicating with the fans and getting involved with the local community, something that we’re all looking forward to doing.

“We’ve got a good group of young Welsh players in training now who I know will give their all week-in, week-out and win, lose and draw, you won’t see lack of commitment from us this year.”
