Morrison out for season

Bradford have been rocked by the news that Glenn Morrison will be sidelined for the rest of the season with a serious knee injury.nnBradford are in an awful rut of form, picking up just two wins from their last six Super League games and losing three on the trot, so the loss of Morrison for the season’s remainder is a hammer blow for under-fire head coach Steve McNamara.nnBradford’s Australian second rower, 32, was originally thought to have sustained a dead leg after sitting out of their last two matches. nnAnd McNamara was hoping to have his vice-captain available for Friday night’s visit to Knowsley Road to face St Helens, but after the swelling on his leg had gone down, the injury turned out to be far worse. A specialist confirmed Morrison had torn a quadrucep muscle and partly broken his kneecap.nnMorrison now needs an operation to repair the damage, leaving McNamara short of a key figure for Bradford’s play-off push.nnHead coach McNamara admitted how sorry he feels for Morrison. “We’re all just really devastated for Glenn more than anything and he’s understandably absolutely gutted,” he said.nn”How he managed to carry on playing with that injury shows just what sort of an amazing character he is. It’s unbelievable really. It turned out he didn’t sleep for four nights due to the pain,” he added.nnThings go from bad to worse for the Odsal side, but McNamara reiterated that his side must cope in Morrison’s absence. “It’s another situation we’ve got to deal with but we will get on and do that,” he assured.nnMorrison admits he got a nasty surprise when he was told the full extent of the injury, but refused to be too downbeat and expressed his intent to look to next season.nn”I wasn’t expecting this. I just thought I’d got a bad ‘cork’. I tried running it off and it was pretty sore but there was no-one left on the bench so I stuck it out,” he said.nn”It is disappointing but the one positive is I’m signed next year. Hopefully I’ll be right for a big off-season, which I didn’t get this time, and ready for a big 2009,” he added.
