Micky McIlorum extends Catalans stay

Catalans hooker Michael McIlorum has signed a new contract with the Super League table toppers for 2022.Micky McIlorum, the 33-year-old Ireland and England international has made 71 appearances for the Dragons since joining from Wigan ahead of the 2018 season and was out of contract this year.

Catalans coach Steve McNamara said: “Since Micky’s arrival at the Dragons he has helped set the standard in how to compete on everything.

“He continues to be one of the most fierce competitors in the competition and we are delighted he will continue with us for another season.”

Micky McIlorum enjoyed a trophy-laden time at Wigan. He won the 2010, 2013 and 2016 Super League titles and lifted the Challenge Cup in 2011 and 2013.

He was influential in the Catalans’ historic Wembley triumph in his first season, when he was named player of the year, and has played a key role in their League Leaders’ Shield success this year.

Micky McIlorum said: “I am very happy and proud to be staying with the Dragons next year and to be a part of what (owner) Bernard (Guasch) and the coaching staff have built over the past four years since I arrived.

“Thanks to Bernard and Steve for showing their trust and confidence in me. We will all be trying to finish this season on a high.

“Thank you to the fans for their continued support and the people of this region who have welcomed me and my family like one of their own since we arrived.”
