Menzies goes to France for final year

Veteran forward Steve Menzies will play out his last season in rugby league with Catalans Dragons.

Menzies, 37, has spent the past two seasons at Bradford after a distinguished career with Manly Sea Eagles in the NRL which saw him rack up 349 games and 180 tries, a record for a forward.

He has missed just one game since his arrival in the UK, scoring 23 tries in 53 games for the Bulls.

He said: “I am really excited about going to Catalans for one more year. The team had a bit of a disappointing season but hopefully we can turn around.”

Incoming head coach Trent Robinson sees Menzies as playing in the second-row for his side, and will be looking for him to pass on his experience to the raft of youngsters coming through in Perpignan.

Robinson said: “I am very happy with the signing of beaver, an iconic player in Australia, who will add value to our squad on and off the field. Steve adds versatility and instincts which will be integral in our system at Catalans next year.”

Menzies played 15 times for Australia, scoring 10 tries, and also made 20 state of origin appearances for New South Wales.
