McCormack anticipates Giant challenge

Steve McCormack believes his Swinton side have been drawn the hardest side in the competition.

Swinton were drawn away to Huddersfield Giants in Monday’s fifth round draw, but McCormack is relishing the challenge.

He said: “We couldn’t have drawn a much tougher tie. Huddersfield are the outstanding team in Super League at the moment and to play them at the Galpharm makes it even tougher.

“But it’s a great draw for the supporters and the players. As a player and a coach you want to test yourself against the best and at the moment they don’t come much better than Huddersfield.”

The Lions were defeated 112-0 in the same stage of the competition last year and McCormack knows the memories of that day are still fresh in the players’ minds.

He said: “We had a tough time against Warrington last season but things like that can happen. Warrington were putting big numbers past Super League teams at that point last season and it was a tough day at the office.

“Huddersfield are playing some fantastic rugby at the moment, a little bit like Warrington were when they played us last season.”
