Tyrone McCarthy has made his NRL debut for St George Illawarra, coming off the bench in the Dragons’ 25-12 loss to Gold Coast.

McCarthy joined the Dragons at the start of the year from Hull KR.

The forward made 37 metres and nine tackles in his his 24 minutes against the Titans.

McCarthy was pleased to finally make his debut, after battling injury early through the season, but disappointed the Red V didn’t get the result.

“I’m gutted that we didn’t get the result, I’m a little bit disappointed about that,” he told the Dragons’ website.

“I had my missus Helen [in the stands], my family back home were watching.

“It’s nice to achieve a goal, hopefully I can kick on from that now and start picking up a few more games.”

McCarthy has been playing for the Dragon’s feeder NSW team, the Cutters.

The back-rower wants to keep his spot for the rest of the 2016 NRL campaign.

“I want to try and stake my claim, stay in the team for the rest of the year,” he said.
