McCarthy claims Wakefield game is ‘must win’ for Hull KR

Hull KR backrower Tyrone McCarthy has insisted his club’s Sunday game at Wakefield is one that the must win.

Rovers showed some offensive guile in their opening day Super League defeat at home to Leeds, but lost 30-40.

McCarthy knows that they must improve defensively if they are to enjoy success this season.

“It’s a massive game for us this week, one that we need to win, and we’ll go into it with that mentality,” McCarthy told his club’s official website.

“We’ve had a look this week at the positives from the Leeds game and some of our negatives as well. Going forward we showed we are a threat.

“We put 30 points on the board against Leeds and most weeks that should be enough to get the win.

“We’ll have a good look at tightening up our D for Wakefield because we don’t want to be leaking that many points each week.

“Personally, there’s lots of things I want to keep working on but we’re all feeling pretty comfortable together down that right side.

“We’ve already spoken about it, me and Albert Kelly, Darrell Goulding and Ken Sio on the wing, we’ve spoken about not wanting to concede tries down our side.

“There’s little things each week that we we’ll work on but as long as we keep working together as a unit, I’m sure we’ll keep getting better and better.”
