Matty Smith spotted training with Warrington

Catalans half-back Matty Smith is set to join Warrington with immediate effect.

The 32-year-old has found chances limited at the Dragons this season, making 16 appearances in all competitions.

Catalans have won just six times in the 16 games that Smith has played in 2019.

Smith was spotted training with the Wolves on Tuesday morning ahead of an immediate move before Friday’s UK transfer deadline.

The former England international only joined Catalans on a two-year contract ahead of this year, so he is still contracted to the club until the end of 2020.

But with James Maloney joining the club as a marquee player for three years from 2020, Smith is surplus to requirements at the French club.

The Dragons also have the likes of Sam Tomkins, Tony Gigot, Samisoni Langi and Lucas Albert as options to play in the halves.

Warrington have been approached for comment.
