Doncaster have confirmed that they have signed utility back Matthew Cook for the 2016 season.

The 21-year-old has spent the last two seasons at Hunslet, and came through the ranks at Wakefield’s academy.

He has also played for London Skolars on loan in recent seasons.

“Matt is an ex Wakefield Academy player and he has been on my radar for sometime,” Dons coach Gary Thornton told his club’s official website.

“I almost signed him when I was at York City Knights two years ago, however he joined Hunslet Hawks and I have tracked his progress since.

“Matt has played in League One before and offers good utility value, we want everyone to push everyone in the team next season.

“He is a young player and adds more competition for places in our outside backs.

“Matt can play, he is a good player and didn’t get the opportunity I felt he should have at Hunslet, because of their dual registration partnership with Leeds Rhinos.

“He went out on loan to London Skolars last season and he was one of their top performers and I am pleased to have him on board.”
